The Springs Close Foundation, Inc.
The Foundation’s Grant Focus

Since it was chartered in 1942, The Springs Close Foundation, Inc. has contributed over $85 million to a wide variety of charitable and educational causes designed to improve the quality of life and well-being of the people in Chester, Lancaster and York Counties. The Foundation also makes occasional statewide grants in South Carolina.

The Foundation follows a philosophy that resources are here to assist community groups and agencies with programs and projects that will contribute the most to improving the quality of life for the people in its service area. The Springs Close Foundation will often share knowledge and experience that may expand the design of a particular program.

Funds are never adequate to meet all the identified needs in the area and the Foundation must carefully set its priorities. Each need will continue to be evaluated on its own merit and weighed against other requests to the Foundation.

The Springs Close Foundation, Inc. manages a no-interest student loan program for young people who attend a four-year, accredited, degree-granting college in South Carolina or York Technical College in Rock Hill. Loans are made to students who live in, or whose parents are employed in, Chester County, Lancaster County and Fort Mill Township.

1. Grant applications are received and reviewed in the Fort Mill, S.C. office.

2. Deadlines for the submission of grant requests are March 1 for the spring Board meeting and October 1 for the fall Board meeting.

3. Grants are made only to organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. No grants are made to individuals.

4. There are three major areas of program interest: Recreation & Environment, Public Education & Early Childhood Development, Community Service & Health

5. Grants are often awarded on a matching basis with other foundations and/or the sponsoring agencies as other participants.
